These statements of my perception of your learning have grown from my review of all the records and our experiences in class. In a cooperative learning world, in which our objective is to help each other gain critical insights, what should matter, instead of "grades," is such a report. Learning that I can tell you I have seen, either directly or through some of your work, and that you can confirm. That is learning accountability.
A leltter of recommendation that fully and specifically describes your learning is our goal for the end of the semester. An example of how one student accomplished this is provided to give you ideas.
- Reported grade:
- Observations and Comments: I still can't put a name to this face. Please be sure you interact with me soon.
- Reported grade:
- Observations and Comments: We have interacted, but I'm still not able to bring up a face for the name. Keep reminding me.
- Reported grade:
- Observations and Comments: Just as last semester, you show a real eagerness to learn. But you sometimes take the issue off point. Since we have so little time to get through so much material this can be disconcerting. Try not to take us off into unrelated or far afield issues. Although spousal abuse is important as an issue, it does not belong in the same discussion with the framework for analysis of corporate victimization or the structural violence of excluding specific groups, such as gays.
- Reported grade:
- Observations and Comments: I know your face and name securely now. But I do not know what your special interests are. You are bright and attentive, and it's nice to have you, but I want to hear more of your thinking.
- Reported grade:
- Observations and Comments: You are here at different times and places, but I know you by face and name. I know of your computer skills, and want very to much to work with you on a search engine. I hope we'll be able to connect better, now that we've finally worked out what seems to be a feasible schedule for everyone.
- Reported grade:
- Observations and Comments: I knew your face and name from Agencies, and from working with you on papers for presentation. You did a splendid job with your first professional paper. And I am very much aware of how extensively you are reading. That's a legacy I am pleased to hand down for Earl V. Pullias, who taught me that the best way to learn was to read voraciously.
- Reported grade:
- Observations and Comments: I'm pretty sure I've got a name tagged to your face. I am very pleased that the new schedule seems to be working out for you. You tend to be quiet, partially out of consideration, I think, for how very fast the pace has been these first few weeks. I expect to know you better soon.
- Reported grade:
- Observations and Comments: I remember that you graciously gave me your name again this week, but I still can't summon your face at will with the name. Now that the records are going up, that will help a lot for me to connect your stories and your learning with your faces.
- Reported grade:
- Observations and Comments: For you, I do not yet have a face for the name. Be sure to interact with me so that I can make the connection.
- Reported grade:
- Observations and Comments: I do have your face and name down. But every now and then it fails me, as it did on Thursday. Just nag me a little, and I'll soon have it securely. I also need from you a better sense of how you are reacting to and using the material from class, what your special interests are.
