Evaluating WEB Sites as Academic Sources
Exercise B.
Evaluating a Site on Eating Disorders to Include CSUDH
I found the following Web site in the May 1998 issue of Artweek. It focuses on eating disorders and was created by students for students. It fits in beautifully with the site I am hoping to put up shortly on Women's Issues: Eudora.
Here is the site URL:
http://www.eating.ucdavis.edu/dept/eating/resource/resources.html
For statistics class, collect the following information:
- How many university sources are provided on the site?
- How many California State College resources are provided on the site?
- Is there a Los Angeles resource given on the site?
- If we at CSUDH wanted to provide such a university resource, how could we get the statistics to show our need for such a site?
Consider asking other site resource centers.
Make a list of questions we would need to ask the other resource centers. (Do NOT e-mail me the whole list. Just e-mail that you did this.)
Make a list of offices on our own campus where you could get statistics on our need for this kind of resource.
- If we managed to create such a resource on our campus, how would you go about having CSUDH included on the resource list on the site?
- What would we need to do to include this site on a site or our own dealing with this issue?
