Introduction to Comments
Time to share comments coming in to the site. I wish I still had the one that came in late one night telling us that there was a typo on one of our pages, and that that seemed such a shame, given the quality of our work. The reader proceeded to tell us how we could spell check the entire site.
There was nothing to do but laugh. I had been on the site for hours, struggling to put up material and organize it so we could all find it. The very last thing I cared about at that point was a typo. Besides, the site was so huge there was no way I had time to spell check the whole thing. And the reader had neglected to tell me precisely where the typo was. I was working on an old Pentium computer that could barely manage the software!
But if that reader is still out there, although I'm still struggling to put up material and organize it so we can all find it, I try now to remember to go back and spell check. My present software even alerts me everytime the spelling is suspect. I know there are still typos. The New York Times has them, too. But we're trying.
