Chat groups on Monday, October 12, 1998, moved immediately to the topics of male and female trust, commitment, relationships, and materialistic well-being. In the '70s there was not such an emphasis on trust and materialistic entitlement in terms of marriage. Marriage was anticipated, expected, but with less emphasis on the issues of trust and commitment. No fault divorce, women's wholesale movement into the job market, and the failure of society to assume the economic burdens of childrearing are some of the factors that have contributed to this shift in emphasis.
Both women and men are bitter at the individualized material burdens they see placed upon them, and they are carping at and distrustful of one another. I would like to ask you to stop blaming one another. You can only do so on the basis of wicked little unstated assumptions.
