PI CHI CHAPTER

CHAPTER HISTORY

Pi Chi chapter was chartered on April 26, 1989 on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills for the purpose of becoming a progressive extension of the ideals of Delta Sigma Theta and Its founders. It was chartered under the excellent guidance of the Los Angeles Southbay Alumnae Chapter. Soror Eleanor Clark-Thomas, president, became the liaison between CSUDH and L.A. Southbay. She worked diligently to fulfill both the university and sorority requirements. Pi Chi adopted the sorority mentor program, which encourages collaboration between graduate and undergraduate chapters. Naturally Pi Chi adopted the L.A. Southbay Alumnae chapter as its mentor chapter.

On April 15, 1989, the Los Angeles Southbay Alumnae Chapter initiated the following young women into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc: Ingrid Alexander-Carson, Janet Mulholland-Ray, Nikki Wells, Robbie Wroten, Teri Morrison, Marcia Gervin-Gillyard and Vernida Hamilton. Theses seven Sorors, along with Soror Terri Mosley and two other undergraduate (Soror Audrea Jewell, Omicron Delta Chapter at Bennett College and Soror Audrey Gillium, Eta Omega Chapter at San Jose State University) became the ten charter members of the 807th chapter established by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

Pi Chi Sorors focus closely on Delta’s Public motto, “Intelligence is the Torch of Wisdom.” The sorority pursues expansion, unification and academic achievement in its efforts to work effectively with CSUDH, the community and especially young African-American women.
