WRITING LEADERSHIP
COLLOQUIUM 2006-2007
Meeting Dates: Fall 2006: October 9, October 30, November 13, November 27, and December 11 Spring 2007: February 11, March 5, March 19, April 16, May 7 WH-C303, Health and Human Services Conference Room 10:00am - 12:00noon The Writing Leadership Colloquium (WLC) was made up of a select group of ECLP “graduates” among CSUDH faculty members. The colloquium provided continuing university leadership for improving the critical literacy of our students. Larry Ferrario, Lois Feuer, and Linda Pomerantz Zhang were the co-coordinators of the colloquium. The fall colloquium’s series of meetings focused on advanced techniques in teaching critical literacy, building on previous ECLP work, and on skill building for developing and delivering workshop presentations. In the spring, participants designed, singly or with partners, one-hour workshops to be presented at a mini-conference in September 2007 and hopefully, circumstances permitting, at other times in the future. The University is moving forward with the implementation of the Writing Intensive graduation requirement, an initiative developed by the faculty and supported by the administration. In fall 2008 the requirement will apply to entering freshmen, and in fall 2010 to transfer students. To insure that a group of trained and knowledgeable faculty is available to guide their colleagues in the design and teaching of these courses, the colloquium was created, in the last year of the ECLP grant, to carry its impact forward and provide support for faculty teaching these courses in the future. Participants were asked to make a genuine, though informal, commitment to serving occasionally as resource persons in the future. |
