The Banning Museum- The Banning Residence Museum, and General Phineas Banning Museum and Library

Group tour and lecture with a museum docent covering founding and early history of Wilmington and San Pedro and surrounds.
The Banning Residence was built in 1864. This home’s construction symbolized Phineas Banning’s confidence in the future of his community. The 23-room residence remains the finest example of domestic Greek Revival architecture in Southern California. The house interiors have been carefully restored to their Victorian beauty, and 18 rooms are open to the public.

International Printing Museum in Carson

This little-known museum brings the history of printing and books to life. The inventions of Gutenberg and Franklin will be demonstrated for those who want to learn about traditional printing and the hand-on joy of practicing the book arts. Participants will see a world-class collection of antique printing machinery through an interactive museum tour. Don’t miss this venue which has been honored by The Printing Industries Association of America.

The Point Fermin Lighthouse Historic Site and Museum

Group Tour and lecture covering history, architecture and current use of facility near LA Harbor, LA Maritime Museum and Cabrillo Marine Aquarium.Built in 1874, the Point Fermin Lighthouse was the first navigational light into the San Pedro Bay. Phineas Banning, with the support of many local businessmen, petitioned to place a lighthouse on the point in 1854. Although funding and land disputes delayed its construction until 1874.
The Lighthouse will hold a celebration on the weekend following ours to commemorate the first flight of a bi-plane across the Pacific. This historic event will be covered in the tour.
