THE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

Rather than focus
on a basic
understanding of employment wage and
hours, and labor laws, this program
emphasizes detailed understanding of
processes, systems, and practical “how-to”
knowledge for administering HR programs
and moving into strategic positions on the
company management team.

Intended for the seasoned Human Resource
Professional, the Certificate of Completion in
Advanced Human Resource Management is a
series of specific topic areas that focuses on
today’s important HR management issues.

Location
All classes are held on the CSUDH campus in Carson. On-site instruction
is also available. Human Resource Management classes
are
convenient for people living and working in or near
Los Angeles, Torrance, Long Beach, Carson, Compton,
El Segundo, Palos Verdes, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach,
Redondo Beach, San Pedro,
Hawthorne, Gardena, Lakewood,
Paramount, Bellflower, Downey, Inglewood and other parts of
the South Bay and Southern California.
Special Features
All classes are scheduled in the evenings to
meet the needs of working adults. Courses
are offered for Continuing Education Units
(CEUs). Nationally recognized standards
govern attendance requirements to earn CEU
credit. A permanent record of attendance is
established and students may obtain a copy
of their transcripts by calling the Cashier’s
Office at (310) 243-3821.

Class Descriptions
Strategic HR Management
1.8 CEUs
Students will focus on practical approaches
and advanced techniques to strategically
position the HR function within the business
enterprise. This course is specifically
designed to satisfy strategic knowledge and
skill development required for continuing
education for SHRM/HRCI recertification. This
highly interactive course consists of
discussions, case studies and projects to
build student knowledge, skills and abilities
to contribute to company’s success at a
strategic level. A certificate award will be
awarded upon successful completion of this
course.
Benchmarks and Trends
1.2 CEUs
This course focuses on practical approaches
and advanced techniques to analyzing and
measuring HR, Risk Management, Workplace
Privacy and HIPAA. The course utilizes
interactive discussions, case studies and
student projects to build student knowledge,
skills and abilities to contribute to a
company’s success.
Human Resource Practices
1.2 CEUs
This course focuses on management and
labor relations in both a union and non union
environment, including negotiation and
managing under a collective bargaining
agreement. Positive employee relations
practices will be examined. Students will also
role play ethical HR issues and learn how to
conduct workplace investigations.
