THE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM


Intended for the seasoned
Human Resource professional,
the Certificate Award in Advanced Human Resource Management is
a series of classes in specific topic areas that focus on the important HR management issues of today. Rather than focus on a basic understanding of employment wage, and hour, and
labor laws, the Advanced Certificate curriculum places emphasis on a detailed understanding of processes, systems, and practical "how-to" knowledge for administering HR programs and moving into strategic positions as part of the company management team in today's competitive business environment. The certificate can be earned in one semester (8 weeks), and awards 2.4 CEUs (Continuing Education Units).

Topics covered include human resource systems, analyzing hr, enhancing the value of hr, behavioral interviewing, union organizing in the workplace, worker compensation, employee leaves, ethical issues in human resources management, conducting workplace investigations, and employee discipline and termination.

All classes are offered at the Franklin Community Center in Redondo Beach
(directions via Mapquest). Human Resource Management classes are convenient for
people living and working in or near Los Angeles, Torrance, Long Beach, Carson,
Compton, El Segundo, Palos Verdes, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach,
San Pedro, Hawthorne, Gardena, Lakewood, Paramount, Bellflower, Downey, Inglewood
and other parts of the South Bay and Southern California.

Advanced Human Resource Systems

The course includes 8 meetings covering the following topics

  1. Analyzing HR
    The first class will examine specific models for establishing benchmarks
    and measuring department effectiveness.
  2. Enhancing the Value of HR
    This session will focus on specific internal marketing and integration
    techniques to develop HR as a strategic partner in business operations.
  3. Behavioral Interviewing
    The class will help the participants to develop speciic interviewing skills
    to identify the right candidate for hire.
  4. Union Organizing in the Workplace
    This session will focus on union organizing and effective company
    responses to maintaining a union free environment.
  5. Understanding Worker's Compensation & Employee Leaves
    The class will simplify and clarify the confusion that surrounds the administration of
    Workers' Compensation administration. Students will examine the legal and practical
    aspects of developing and administering company leaves, vacation programs, and other company paid-time-off programs.
  6. Ethical Issues in Human Resources Management
    Students will examine the Seven Questions of Ethics, the Ten Critical Components of a Successful Ethics Program, the qualities required for making ethical decisions, and the application of ethics in personnel decision-making. The class will examine several
    challenging case studies in applying ethical standards and principles.
  7. Conducting Workplace Investigations
    This class will focus on proper and effective processes to conduct discrimination,
    harassment and employee malfeasance investigations.
  8. Employee Discipline and Termination
    This session will examine the systems, methods and communication techniques
    necessary to effectivelydiscipline and terminate an employee.
