THE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
This certificate will prepare an individual with the fundamental
knowledge and skills necessary
for Web design. In this series
of courses you will learn the fundamentals of HTML
and web site development. You will gain valuable
experience with specific web development and graphic tools: Dreamweaver, a web design and coding application; Fireworks, a web graphic design and image
optimization tool; and Flash, a web animation
and multimedia application.

THE LOCATION
All classes are offered at California State University,
Dominguez Hills in Carson. Web Design classes are convenient
for people living and working in or near Los Angeles, Torrance,
Long Beach, Carson, Compton, El Segundo, Palos Verdes, Manhattan
Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, San Pedro, Hawthorne,
Gardena, Lakewood, Paramount, Bellflower, Downey, Inglewood
and other parts of the South Bay and Southern California.
CONVENIENT COURSE SCHEDULE
The courses have been scheduled for Friday evenings and
Saturdays for the
convenience of working professionals.
CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS
A Certificate of Completion will be awarded upon the completion
of four required courses and one elective. All courses provide
Continuing Education Units (CEUs), and a certificate can
be earned in one semester. Those who do not wish
to pursue a certificate may take individual classes.
CERTIFICATE PREREQUISITES
Limited computer experience is all that in needed to take
these courses. Students should be familiar with basic concepts
of how to use a computer (either PC or Mac), including:
loading and saving text files; using a mouse; accessing
an external drive; and basic OS functionality (cut-copy-paste,
keyboard shortcuts, etc). Programming experience is helpful,
but not required.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Business professionals and students who want a thorough
knowledge of Web design and development in a short period
of time should attend these classes.

INSTRUCTOR PROFILE
Anissa Barton-Thompson, a full-time web developer and graphic
designer, has received awards for her work on high-end e-commerce,
consumer, entertainment, community service and education
sites. She has taught web site design at CSUDH since 1995,
and is the developer of this certificate. Anissa is a Macromedia
Certified Dreamweaver MX / 2004 Developer, and holds Master
Level Certifications in HTML and Dreamweaver MX.

(Building a Better Website) »
This course is an HTML beginning-level workshop. Students
will create a basic Web page for business, a non-profit
organization, or for individual personal or professional
use. Beginning principles of HTML include: proper HTML code
structure, color selection, and placing images, text, and
links on a page.

CIX 913-01 Intermediate HTML »
This course builds on the skills gained in the Building
a Better Web Site class. Topics covered include: a quick
review of basic HTML structure, advanced tags, styling text
with fonts, using tables to control layout, and creating
online forms.

This course builds on the skills gained in the Intermediate
class and adds: building complex sites using CSS, frames,
multimedia (sound, video & animation), adding JavaScript
functionality, detailed FTP and directory structure overview,
and more.

Learn to use this popular web design tool! Topics covered
include: working with text and graphics, visual page design,
tools for creating tables and forms, site management, implementing
style sheets, and adding JavaScript or behaviors.

Flash is the web standard for vector graphics and animation.
Designed for the web, Flash is used to create beautiful
and compact animations, navigation, interfaces, ad banners,
logos, technical illustrations, and full-length cartoons.
Using Flash, web designers can create interactive vector
graphics and animations without scripting.

CIX 936-01 Using Fireworks »
Macromedia Fireworks is the premier program for bridging
the gap between graphic design and web development. Fireworks
eliminates the need for expensive image editing programs
with high learning curves, allowing you to manipulate photos
design fantastic web graphics and create animation with
little or no design experience, And, it takes things a step
further: import your web design into or create a new design
in Firworks, and let it optimize and slice your images,
and create the HTML and JavaScript as well!
