The Program
This program will offer a broad overview of the Trade & Transportation
– “Global Logistics” field. Each week, international
leaders will provide “real world” training in international
business and logistics operations ranging from import/export, bonded
warehousing or trucking to international contracts, banking and
legal transactions. Participants will be introduced to proper etiquette,
documents, procedures, terms and viable career opportunities. Participants
will also learn the “language” and “culture”
of logistics providers and import/export transactions, and essential
traits required of 21st Century Global Managers.
LOCATION All classes are offered at California State University, Dominguez
Hills in Carson. Grant Writing and Administration classes are convenient
for people living and working in or near Los Angeles, Torrance,
Long Beach, Carson, Compton, El Segundo, Palos Verdes, Manhattan
Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, San Pedro, Hawthorne, Gardena,
Lakewood, Paramount, Bellflower, Downey, Inglewood and other parts
of the South Bay and Southern California.
What You Will Learn
Upon completion of this program participants will:
• Become familiar with basic international contract terms;
nomenclature, terms of sale, international documentation, logistics
procedures and regulations.
• Recognize players, roles and functions of firms and organizations
in the global logistics “supply chain”.
• Understand how to select overseas agents, carriers, consolidators,
port and airport services, logistics providers, international banks,
lawyers, maritime insurance or bonded warehouse providers and additional
ancillary services in the global supply chain.
• Be able to utilize government and non-government agencies,
trade organizations, industry support services, additional resources
and comply with industry regulations and compliance requirements.
• Learn the basic documentation, procedures and process of
logistics/import/export cargo moves.
• Understand changes in ideology, economic trends in global
business practice; learn industry etiquette and SOP’s.
• Develop global management skills; enhance scheduling, customer
service, diversity and project management skills needed by owner/manager
or employee of an export/import or logistics firm.

The program will provide “real world”
training from firms and professionals conducting international business
and logistics operations ranging from import/export, bonded warehousing
or trucking to international contracts, banking and legal transactions.
Certificate Requirements
A certificate of completion will be awarded to those who finish
both Modules I & II of Track 1 and 1 Module of Track 2 (3 modules
total). The remaining II modules of Track 2 (workshops and discussion
sessions) support business and career transitions. They are recommended,
but not required for the Global Logistics Management Certificate
Program.

The Program
This program will help to develop skills and personality traits
required of 21st Century Global Managers. The participant will learn
the key components of diversity, global customer service, and project
management skills specific to firms engaging in international business
or logistics activities.
The program will also connect the participant with
industry experts, to assess and further develop desired traits and
skill sets used in global trade activities. It will help to support
development of scheduling, tracking, tracing, problem solving and
customer service or project management skills needed to move product
around the worldwide.
The program will additionally support hiring authorities
and job seekers to understand the unique “culture” and
etiquette of the industry and to assess the qualities and skills
of an individual suitable to logistics careers. Finally, it will
direct and target business or job seekers towards appropriate firms
and environments, enhance industry networking and provide a process
for preparing marketing (or resume) material specific to achieve
industry goals.
This program is offered in conjunction with the
Global Logistics - “Meet the Industry Experts” Program
and may be complemented by informational interviews/internships
developed around key areas of interest. Track 2 Module I joins with
Track 1 Modules I & II to complete a Global Logistics Management
Certificate Program.
