Master of Science in
Nursing
MSN Admission Requirements:
- Completion of a BSN degree from an NLNAC or CCNE accredited program in a regionally accredited institution or its equivalent as determined by the CSUDH Nursing Student Affairs Committee.
- Overall grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4-point scale) or higher in the last 60 semester (90 quarter) units taken.
- Clear and active RN license in the United States.
- Satisfaction of the Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR) achieved prior to or during the first semester of coursework.
Registered nurses who have earned a bachelor's degree in another field (non-nursing) may be eligible for the BA/BS Pathway to the MSN degree. All potential Pathway students must attend a special MSN Pathway Program Workshop, by teleconference or online.
General Requirements:
All students admitted to the major must be actively licensed as a registered nurse (RN). It is the students' responsibility to immediately report in writing any change in licensure to the Chair of Nursing or the Program Coordinators.
Prior to each Role Performance (clinical) course, students are responsible for obtaining and showing evidence of the following items:
- Current RN licensure
- Rubella Immunization
- Negative PPD or chest x-ray
- Current CPR certification
- Professional Liability Insurance (minimum $1,000,000 coverage)
- Hepatitis B/waiver of immunization
- Blood-borne Pathogen Training (Universal Precautions)
- Worker's Compensation Waiver
Client confidentiality must be respected.
Students must purchase their own copy of course materials required for a particular course.
The nursing curriculum must be completed in the order prescribed and all students must earn B or better for each course. Failure to meet course prerequisites will adversely affect student progress. MSN students must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA (B).
Students must adhere to the highest CSUDH standards of academic and professional integrity.
