| Music for Children
This intensive three-week course will focus
on the teaching Method of Emile Jaques-Dalcroze called, “Eurhythmics.”
It will be taught by one of America’s leading licensed
exponents of the Dalcroze Method, Dr. Stephen Moore. The primary
goals of the course are to improve musicianship and to develop
techniques to strengthen those skills in students in the classroom,
in ensembles and in the private studio. Participants who complete
the course will receive 45 hours as partial fulfillment for
Certification in Eurhythmics.
The course will combine training in Eurhythmics (movement
to music), solfege-rythmique, (singing with movement) and
Improvisation (combining pitch and movement). Demonstrations
of the teaching method and practice teaching by participants
will comprise the activity portion of the class.
Eurhythmics, meaning “good flow,” was the term
used by its founder Emile Jaques-Dalcroze (1865-1950), to
describe his Method of encouraging a personal awareness of
rhythm by educating the body to move expressively and efficiently
to music. Eurhythmics is taught at the world’s leading
music schools and conservatories, and has been incorporated
in the work of dancers, actors, architects, and artists.
