Introduction to Volunteer and Nonprofit Organizations and Board Governance

This one-day program provides an overview of the administrative, legal and financial aspects of volunteer and nonprofit organizations and how they are governed by boards.

This course is designed for new, potential, and experienced individuals who are considering, or currently, serving on a volunteer or nonprofit board of directors such as student organizations, homeowner’s associations, volunteer associations, nonprofit corporations. Additionally, it is a great course for those recruiting potential board members and for recently recruited board members. Those interested in learning about how nonprofits function also will benefit from the course.

About the Instructor
Raquel Beltrán, MBA, President, B.G. Unlimited; Raquel consults with and provides marketing and management training for organizations, businesses and community programs. She brings over 35 years of public and private sector as well as community-based experience working with diverse groups of individuals.

Introduction to Volunteer & Nonprofit Organizations & Board Governance
This course provides an understanding of the legal and financial aspects of volunteer and nonprofit organizations and how they are governed by boards. Areas covered include the current climate under which these organizations operate; how the mission statement should drive decisions-making; transparency and accountability at all levels of the organization; basic board procedures to insure sound decision-making; and how volunteers can be involved in organizations.
