JAPANESE ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION
By Suzanne Tatikian
General Characteristics of Agricultural, Industrial, and Information Age Environmental Pollution
-
Agricultural Age Energy Sources:
Limited, insignificant levels of pollution.
-
Industrial Age Energy Sources:
Industrial age air, water, and noise pollution from burning of fossil fuels.
-
Information Age Energy Sources:
Global pollution problems, global warming (greenhouse effect), and hole in ozone level--all legacies of the industrial age; prospects for cleaner environment from free technologies and an eventual return to renewable energy sources.
Information/Data on Japanese Environmental Pollution
Japan has experienced dust pollution in the past, but a bigger problem has been the pollution form factories and automobiles. However in the 1970's Japan stopped production on some of the factories that were producing pollution. Japan also has experienced pollution in its sea's, mainly because of the system it has for disposing sewage which is quite under developed at best.
Conclusions on Japan (Whether Primarily Agricultural, Industrial, or Information Age Re: Environmental Pollution)
Japan still must be categorized in the industrial age as far as how it fares in the category of environmental pollution, this because of the fact that it still has a lot of pollution. However Japan can be said to be making a conscious attempt to control pollution, so therefore it is on the cutting edge of being a third wave country.
