Information/Data on Japanese Urban-Rural Population Distribution

Large-scale population migration from the countryside to the cities, driven by the transfer of labour between agriculture and more productive pursuits in manufacturing and commerce, has transformed Japan from a predominantly rural country when modernization began in the mid 19th century into what is today, an overwhelmingly urban society. However some people chose to remain in smaller towns or villages, and they still enjoy easy access to larger settlements as and when required, thanks to an excellent railway systim and the widespread diffusion of the private automobile.
