JAPANESE DEMOGRAPHICS: URBAN-RURAL POPULATION DISTRIBUTION
By RON TATUM
General Characteristics of Agricultural, Industrial, and Information Age Urban-Rural Demographic Distributions
-
Agricultural Age Urban-Rural Population Distribution:
Rural populations:In Japan a small minority of people lived in rural communities working on the land. However farmers of Japan are the most productive farmers in the world because of their creative uses of the land, to maximize it's potential
-
Industrial Age Urban-Rural Population Distribution:
Urban populations:In countries like Japan undergoing the industrial revolution , people moved to cities to work in factories. In developing countries today, many people are moving to cities seeking (but not always finding) jobs and access to modern life, resulting in unmanageable cities and slums in many cases.
-
Information Age Urban-Rural Population Distribution:
Option for some to live in countryside, in an "electronic cottage," and be connected to work via electronic communications (computers, modem, and telephone lines); many people prefer to work at a central office some days, and at home other days, however.

Conclusions on Japan (Whether Primarily Agricultural, Industrial, or Information Age Re: Urban-Rural Population Distribution)
Japan is primarily a information age country. As I mentioned earilier they are however very productive farmers for the amount of land they have to work with. The Japanese are also accomplished fishermen as well. Japan although not primarily a agricultural nation if they were forced to become one who knows they might make a miracle occur in this field just as they did in economics with their ability to adapt to the given circumstances.
