RUSSIAN ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION
By Daryl R. Evans
General Characteristics of Agricultural, Industrial, and Information Age Environmental Pollution
-
Agricultural Age Pollution :
Limited, insignificant levels of pollution.
-
Industrial Age Pollution:
Industrial age air, water, and noise pollution from burning of fossil fuels.
-
Information Age Pollution:
Global pollution problems, global warming (greenhouse effect), and hole in ozone level--all legacies of the industrial age; prospects for cleaner environment from green technologies and an eventual return to renewable energy sources.
Information/Data on Russian Environmental Pollution
Russia has major enviromental problems left over from the old Soviet Union.
Massive industrial waste areas that were not made public under communist rule.
The largest potential enviromental problems have yet to be realized. The Soviet
military had vast stores of biological and chemical weapons, that need to be
disposed of in a safe manner. The major problem with any enviromental issues
is money. The Russian government does not have the financial resources to pay
for the hazards to be cleaned up properly.
Conclusions on Russia (Whether Primarily Agricultural, Industrial, or Information Age Re: Environmental Pollution)
Russia is clearly in the industrial age in the area of enviromental pollution. This is the reason
that I chose black for the background of this page. The enviromental future is bleak in Russia
unless the west is willing to give more financial support.
