See the section titled “More Information for Calendar Users” at the end for more details about calendars.

Actions for you to take, depending on what Windows operating system you are running.

How to find your Windows OS version:

Windows XP, Service Pack 2:

If you are running Windows XP, Service Pack 2, the Microsoft DST patch has probably already been installed.  To verify this, please click on this link in Internet Explorer: http://dstcheck.csudh.edu/tzcheck.bat.

            A.    If the DST patch is installed, please verify that your appointments are correct during the Extended DST period.  If an appointment is incorrect, manually move it to the correct time.  If you have a lot of appointments during Extended DST, please contact the I.T. Help Desk for further assistance.

            B.     If the DST patch is not installed, please contact the I.T. Help Desk to get the patch installed.  After the patch is installed, you should follow A above.

Windows XP, Service Pack 1 or no Service Packs

You will need to upgrade your operating system to Windows XP, Service Pack 2 and add all Windows patches through Microsoft Update.  Please backup your data files before doing this.  If you need assistance, please contact the I.T. Help Desk.  If you run applications that won’t work with Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 2, you will have to manually update the time on your computer. Once your system is running Windows XP, Service Pack 2, follow the steps outlined above in A.

Windows 2000

There is no patch available from Microsoft.  When the new DST starts on Sunday, March 11, you will have to manually change the time on your computer.  You will also have to change the times on April 1, and again on October 28, and November 4 for 2007.  You can also use a Microsoft tool called tzedit that will manually update DST Time Zone information on the computer.  Reference:  http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=914387.

More Information for Calendar Users:

Please Note: This process may also apply to private conference rooms or other calendars you manage.

Meeting Requests: For new appointments in Extended DST, include the Date, Time, and Local Time Zone in the subject line of all meeting requests, for example: March 15 - 2:00 P.M. Pacific Daylight Time.  Ensure meetings you own, where you are the originator, are scheduled at the correct time.   Manually update any meetings you own that are incorrect and send an update to attendees with the local time included in the subject line.   Take note of any meetings you do not own that might be incorrect and contact the meeting originator for confirmation.    Accept meeting requests that are generated as a result of calendars applying the DST updates.
