Presents a

Development workshop for Registered Nursing Students and Practicing Nurses

The purpose of this workshop is to provide students and practicing nurses with evidence-based knowledge they can use to more effectively find, work and develop a relationship with a mentor in practice, research and Education.

After this three and a half hour workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify two key components crucial to initiating mentoring relationships

  • Describe at least two supportive and nurturing behaviors in the mentoring relationship

  • Describe at least three outcomes that may be obtained through mentoring relationships for students and practicing nurses

  • Identify two best practice models utilized for effective mentoring

9:05 – 9:30 -Keynote - Dr. Carole Shea

Overview of Mentoring; Defining Mentoring; Differentiating coaching, precepting and mentoring; Using a mentor in practice, research and education

9:30 -10:15 - Panel Discussions:

Nursing Practice:

Finding and making contact with a mentor in your organization; Sustaining and nurturing the mentor-mentee relationship; Advantages and of having a mentor in your workplace; Benefits for the mentor and mentee
