Message from the Dean, Mitchell T. Maki
Welcome
to the College of Health and Human Services! As you explore our website,
I am confident that you will find an exciting array of professions and
disciplines which address the ongoing health, mental health, and human
service issues facing our society. The College currently offers programs
in Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Health Sciences, Clinical Lab Sciences,
Radiation Technology, Gerontology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Kinesiology,
Recreation and Leisure Studies, Human Services, and Orthotics and Prosthetics.
We anticipate the launching of a Social Work program, a Child Development
program, and an Exercise Science Program in the next year. Beyond the
array of degree programs that we offer, the College of Health and Human
Services has been cutting edge in how it delivers its programs. The
Nursing program has offered complete MSN and BSN degree programs online
for the last five years. The other degree programs are quickly moving
in this direction and currently offer some courses online along with
the on-campus courses.
The mission of the College of Health and Human Services is to enhance the health, mental health, and social needs of the human population. This goal is accomplished through an interdisciplinary preparation of professionals who can deliver quality and comprehensive services within a multiethnic, multicultural, and multiclass society. Given our campus location – just south of Los Angeles, we must provide programs that address needs and issues we all face as individuals, families and communities living in a diverse urban environment. Additionally, our online programs require that we address issues relevant to rural and international health care. We teach our students how to learn, grow and thrive academically, professionally and personally. Our graduates are certain about the contributions they can make to society in their chosen profession.
In this
website you will find information about our faculty, staff and students,
and specific academic programs. I thank you for your interest in exploring
professions that help to enrich the lives of others in society. I look
forward to the opportunity for CSU Dominguez Hills to play a pivotal
role in your educational, professional, and personal advancement.
Wishing you the best in the pursuit of your professional and academic aspirations,
Mitchell T. Maki
A Welcome Message From Associate Dean
The
new College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) exists to prepare health
professionals who can deliver quality interdisciplinary health services
within a multiethnic, multicultural society. Envisioned as a nationally
and internationally recognized leader in health and human services programs,
the college strives to prepare its graduates for careers that will impact
education, research and practice in the different areas of health and
human services on local, national and international levels. At the same
time, we will advocate for improvements in the status of human health
through a comprehensive approach that includes legislative policy initiatives,
curative, preventive and health promotion measures.
Since we service a diverse community, the college will make every effort to promote respect and appreciation of the breadth of cultural values and to be aware of other prevailing conditions that affect the lives of these diverse human populations. In essence, my colleagues and I will be developing ways for the college to become integral in formulating a health care system that assures the achievement of an optimal state of health and well being for all.
