Nondiscrimination/Workforce Diversity PRESIDENTIAL STATEMENT ON NONDISCRIMINATION AND WORKFORCE DIVERSITY California State University, Dominguez Hills, a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural institution, has a policy of nondiscrimination in all matters affecting students, employees and applicants for admission or employment. Not only is the University committed to compliance with equal opportunity and affirmative action regulations, but to understanding and valuing diversity. We seek to be a model multi-cultural campus community. Our University is committed to assuring equal opportunities in educational programs and employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status. Laws and regulations issued by the United States, the State of California, and the Trustees of the California State University require equal treatment for all persons. Only the following factors may be used to make distinctions among individuals: merit, ability, talent, knowledge, and achievement as they relate to the goals and missions of this institution. We reaffirm that full support will be given to affirmative action programs which seek to overcome underutilization of ethnic minorities, women, Vietnam-era veterans, and persons with disabilities. Every member of the University shares in the opportunity to create a successful multi-cultural environment and in the responsibility to abide by and support policies of nondiscrimination. I urge every member of the campus community to take positive action to ensure a campus climate that promotes civility and values diverse cultures, opinion, and perspectives. Considerable progress has been made in achieving the goals and objectives set forth in previous University affirmative action plans. Many people have worked hard, and with great success, to build a diverse workforce at Dominguez Hills. They have neither sacrificed standards nor deviated from a commitment to seek qualified faculty and staff members who constitute a community that is diverse in race, ethnicity, gender, interests, and perspectives. We shall sustain our efforts in this regard. Linda MacAllister, Director, Equity and Internal Affairs, is responsible for overall coordination of our affirmative action programs for both faculty and staff. She is directly responsible to me for monitoring, evaluating and implementing our campus affirmative action plans. Questions or complaints should be directed to office (WH A-435; phone 310-243-3970). Our University serves one of the most diverse groups of
students and one of the most diverse communities in the nation. Our workforce
is also one of the most diverse in the country. We, in particular, must
work vigorously to promote a campus climate that respects human differences
and values all human potential.
