COURSE OBJECTIVES

A familiarity with the beliefs and practices of the larger religions of the world as well as with some of the lesser known ones.
A capability of accurately comparing and contrasting religions of the world.
A habit of forming an enlightened, developed, personal philosophy on religion and religions, their nature and value, in the past, at present, and for the future.

BOOKS REQUIRED

Noss, John B., History of World's Religions. 8th ed. (Formerly: Man's Religions.) Macmillan, 1992. Noss is highly recommended (for its quantity and quality); however, anyone having difficulties beyond their control may, with the consent of the instructor, use another university-level World Religions textbook.
Joseph Gibaldi and Walter Achtert, MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers. New York: Modern Language Association, 1988. ISBN: 0-87352-379-2. Note: This book is required for all HUX Courses.

NOTE: Please disregard any references to Ellwood, whether in the course guide or on the enclosed audio tape (unless you have and are using that text in your studies). It was a former text that has been replaced by the Noss material listed above.
