HUMANITIES 347 - IMAGES OF HUMANITY:
WORLD RELIGIOUS PERSPECTIVES

[Assignment I] [AssignmentII] [AssignmentIII]

Assignments

The assigned study in the course guide is to be supplemented by study in the Noss textbook. That is, whenever the study assignment is on a particular religion, then supplement - in preparation for the writing assignment - your study of the course guide by reading/studying from the corresponding chapters of the textbook.

Because this will be conducted as a Philosophy/Religious Studies course, the key focus of your writing assignments will include not only evidence of factual, accurate knowledge learned, but also reflected, personal critiques, even analysis and speculation, comparison and contrast. The instructor would like something between a bare informational report of names, dates, doctrines, rituals, and a bare statement of one's feelings and attitudes: a happy medium of factual information and personal judgment.

Feel free to utilize any of the many fine general college-level (or higher) or above texts in Comparative Religions, as well as other materials, e.g., The National Geographic, personal travels, life and work experiences, and so forth.

If slightly less study time is apportioned to Judaism and Christianity, this is because of time constraints and the need for the other existing religions of the world to be better known to the so-called "West." Note that the final written assignment allows for writing on any of the religions or any related aspects.

NOTE:

See Instructions for Sending in Assignments from the Humanities External Degree Online Catalog for specific details regarding approved methods of turning in assignments.
