Dear HUX 521 Student:

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and welcome you to HUX 521, Humanities Encounter: The Living Theatre. My name is Hal Marienthal and I am the instructor for this course. I have been teaching theatre and film courses (and creating plays and film) for over 40 years. If you are interested in one of these areas as the basis for an Independent Study, I will be happy to discuss this with you.

Please study your course guide carefully and return the contract as soon as possible for approval. The course offers 3 units of credit. Please space your encounters with various theaters over the trimester.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

This Encounter course is designed to view and analyze several theatrical events with special focus on the techniques and content of the medium. In introduces the relationship of theatre and dramatic plays to the Humanities disciplines and requires extensive written analyses of the students’ theatre-going experiences.
