HUX 578 - Female Coming of Age in World Literature

An examination of 20th century world literature by female authors writing on the theme of "coming of age." Through fiction and autobiography from diverse world cultures including France, China, South Africa, Vietnam and the U.S., a study of the influence of ethnic background and cultural traditions on the coming of age experience. Examines modern definitions of women and their survival and growth strategies. Critical analysis in a comparative literature and cultures framework with feminist perspectives.
