Those Pesky Passwords

It's Monday morning at 8 a.m. You boot up your PC and see a dialog box saying, "Your password will expire in 10 days. Do you want to change it now?" You say sure. You pick out a new complex password, see a message saying your password has been changed, and you go ahead and open Outlook to read your mail.

At lunchtime, you go to the PeopleSoft HR home page and enter your username and password—proud that you still remember that new password. But wait! PeopleSoft says it doesn't know you. What??

It's true. PeopleSoft doesn't know you until you navigate to DHNet at https://dhnet.csudh.edu to change your password. What the heck did you change this morning? You changed your login information in the Windows Active Directory (AD), which doesn't transmit your change to the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP). That message about your password expiring came from Windows, not the CSUDH network.

An alternative is to navigate to DHNet in the first place to change your password. DHNet will, in turn, transmit your new password to the AD.
