Many of us return acknowledgments that a message is received. This is not always necessary. It adds to the number of messages for others and quite often no other information is contained in the acknowledgment.
Update your Greeting
When you are away for an extended period of time, consider using an extended absence (optional) greeting. Discourage others from leaving messages if they will not be timely on your return. Include any reference to your length of absence and the name/number of someone else who can provide assistance (or an option to transfer to someone, the attendant option. Send your request for an attendant to Telephone Services).
