A Brief HERstory of Kappa Delta Chi Sorority, Inc. CSUDH

"Be Realistic, Demand the Impossible" - Historian Robert Bozzanco

The realization of a dream came about when Ana Elsy Reyes and Erika Ontiveros pondered upon an intrinsic, yet farfetched idea of initiating a sorority at California State University, Dominguez Hills unlike any other presently on campus. This idea was born on February 2, 2002 and continued to pick up steam with the expiration of time. This idea was one of great motivation and persuasion as it was quickly passed on to others with an epidemic-like intensity. Thus, Prospects Exploring New Greek Unity In New Sisterhood (PENGUINS) became an ad-hoc committee on March 28, 2002 composed of ten talented and gregarious young ladies.

However, an ominous summer dreaded among us as three prospective girls were lost due to grades and personal issues. Though disappointed, the PENGUINS kept faith and in due time found five individual wonderful ladies. This boosted morale and motivation as our group ,composed of 12 ladies, through the charter member packet for the next few months. The hard work was very rewarding as the packet was mailed on August 28, 2002 to Marrisa P. Ramirez, National Director of Expansion. The next months became a game of waiting and a time of great hoping and praying.

The steps toward sisterhood were arduous yet very rewarding. Hard times tested our faith and we always prevailed. The loss of women stalled our process but "things happen for a reason." New women came around that brought their individual talents to something worth a lifetime. The charter applications were turned in personally by Elsy to Marrisa on November 10, 2002 and everything seemed in tact.

PENGUINS were blessed the day after Christmas (December 26, 2002) when a letter was received by Elsy notifying the ladies of their success. They were now an official colony, the first west of the Colorado River! Induction as an official colony took place February 2, 2003 in Small College Complex Room C121 at 8:25am. National Director of Expansion, Marrisa Ramirez, and National Executive Director, Ruby Alvarado conducted the initiation in a fun, yet arduous and informative weekend. This also marked the beginning of the educational process that would commence on March 30, 2003 at am. We were glad at the toil and strife we underwent for more than a year. Tears were cried, laughs were chuckled as A Dozen Pink Roses officially became everlasting sisters of Kappa Delta Chi Sorority, Inc. Retrospectively, our toil was only a small sacrifice for something we will all keep in our hearts for the rest of our lives. We show our gratitude to our sisters, loved ones, and God for guiding us through this passage!
