On February 21 1987, four friends came together to make their dream a reality of establishing a sorority that would unify hispanic women at Texas Tech University. They proceeded to find an advisor that would help them become established. Thus, Marlene Hernandez, Assistant Director of New Student Relations, became their first faculty advisor. After the application process began at Texas Tech, the only task left was to find a name for the sorority. After much research, they decided on Kappa Delta Chi. The 4 friends began the search for others that shared the same motivation towards their cause. They were lucky enough to find 10 other talented women that are now known as our charter members. On April 6 1987, Cynthia Garza, Nellie Flores, Irene Montoya, and Melissa Montoya (our 4 founders), and our 10 charter members were blessed with the official recognition as an organization at Texas Tech University. |
