Description (From

A
practical course in probability and statistics including such topics as the
binomial and normal distributions, confidence intervals, t, F, and chi-square
tests, linear regression and correlation, and conditional probability. Three
hours of lecture per week.

The
student should be able to demonstrate through written assignments, tests,
and/or oral presentations, that he or she has achieved the objectives of MAT
131.
Policies Students are expected to
attend all sessions of the course, read the text, do and check all assigned
problems, complete all work for which points are assigned. Schedule dates are
approximate. Quizzes will cover sections most recently done in class. There are
no makeup quizzes. Homework is due the session after a section is discussed in
class. Homework problems to be turned in will be accepted if they are late, but
it is to the student’s advantage to keep up with class work and turn them in
promptly. Solutions that have errors or are incomplete will be returned for
correction. Projects that are late will have reduced credit. Tests will be
given on the dates scheduled, and will cover the sections that have been
discussed in class. There are no makeup tests. Students may miss one test in an
emergency. There may be a bonus given to students who have completed all tests.
All students must take the final.
Study
Time It is
expected that you will spend at least twice the in class hours studying for
this class outside of class, that is, at least 6 hours a week. Make sure that
you have planned sufficient study time in your weekly schedule for this and
your other classes.
Academic

the work for this course independently. Cooperation on homework is encouraged,
with the understanding that each student must individually master the material
of the class. The mathematics department does not tolerate cheating. Students
