Course Description

The content of MAT 411 depends on the interest of the instructor and students. Possible topics are: epidemic and predator-prey models from differential equations; linear programming models; Arrow's theorem; and probability models.

MAT 411 meets for three hours of lecture per week.

Prerequisites

Required prerequisites: MAT 211, MAT 271, and MAT 241 or CSC 121 or CSC 111, or equivalent with grade C or better. Recommended prerequisites: MAT 311 and MAT 331.

After completing MAT 411 the student should be able to

Students should be able to demonstrate through written assignments, tests, and/or oral presentations, that they have achieved the objectives of MAT 411.

Method of Evaluating Outcomes

Evaluations are based on homework, class participation, short tests and scheduled examinations covering techniques of applied mathematics, applications of mathematics to practical problems, mathematical writing and reporting, and related topics that are covered in MAT 411.

Students' grades are based on homework, class participation, short tests, and scheduled examinations covering students' understanding of the topics covered in MAT 411. The instructor determines the relative weights of these factors.

Due dates and policy regarding make-up work are set by the instructor.

Schedule of Examinations

The instructor sets all test dates except the date of the final exam. The final exam is given at the date and time announced in the Schedule of Classes.
