| Title: | The way of the Cross Product |
| Abstract: |
The standard cross product provides a nice introduction to Lie
algebras. On the space of 3 dimensional vectors, define the operator C
by
CA = i × (i × A) + j × (j × A) + k × (k × A) It is straight forward to prove that CA=-2A for all A &isin R^3. Are there other operators constructed as polynomials in i, j, and k which satisfy a similar eigenvalue equation? How many? |
