Mathematica at CSUDH

What is Mathematica?

Mathematica is ideal for use in engineering, mathematics, finance, physics, chemistry, biology, and a wide range of other fields, it makes possible a new level of automation in algorithmic computation, interactive manipulation, and dynamic presentation--as well as a whole new way of interacting with the world of data.

Features include instant dynamic interactivity, high-impact adaptive visualization, symbolic interface construction, load-on-demand curated data, and more.

Is Mathematica available for my machine's operating system?

Mathematica is available for onsite machines running Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, or Unix. Home-use licenses are available for machines running Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux. Click here for a complete list of platforms supported.

How do I get a copy of Mathematica?

Computer Lab Machines:

Mathematica is currently available on all Welch Hall lab computers maintained by the IT department.

Onsite Machines:

Our site license enables you to use Mathematica for teaching or academic research projects. Campus computers either connect to our campus license server or for campus-owned laptops, a single computer license can be installed.  Please contact Nathlyn Hirohama for further information.

Employee-Owned Machines:

Employees can request a free home-use license for a personally owned machine directly from Wolfram Research at http://www.wolfram.com/siteinfo/homeuse/. You will need our site license number, which is available by contacting Nathlyn Hirohama at x3541.

Student-Owned Machines:

Courtesy of the Mathematics and Computer Science Departments, currently enrolled students can now download Mathematica to their home computers at no cost to them.  Students can go to http://studentmath.csudh.edu.  Once a student logs in with their CSUDH username and password and verifies their CES status, then the student will be redirected to a download page where they can install Mathematica.
Single-Machine License Installation Instructions - the license number is displayed on the download site, please make a note of it.  After installation and Mathematica is launched for the first time, at the Personalize Mathematica window, select Single Machine and enter the information requested .  Once a MathID is generated and you click on the Web button to get a password generated, an email will go to the site administrator and the password will be forwarded to the student's Toromail account
(Important:  Please be sure to enter your toromail email address for contact information, passwords will not be sent to any non-CSUDH email addresses).

Where do I find instructions to install Mathematica?

Installation instructions for Mathematica and Network Mathematica can be found below:

How do I get a password for Mathematica?

When you install MathLM, a single-machine Mathematica license, or Mathematica for Students, you need to register your license to receive a password.

Web: http://register.wolfram.com
Email: register@wolfram.com
Toll free (U.S. and Canada): +1-877-239-7177
Outside the U.S. and Canada: +1-217-398-5151

To obtain a password for your work machine, you'll need our site license number (available by contacting Nathlyn Hirohama, x3541). If installing Mathematica on a personally owned machine, you should use your home-use license number. You'll also need the MathID number that is generated and displayed by the product during the installation process. Tips for locating your MathID number are posted here.

When does my license expire?

Our Mathematica license expires each year on September 23.   There is a thirty day grace period.  Our contract is negotiated through the Chancellor's Office.  Once the contract is signed, the CO will notify the IT department and the new passwords are sent to the site administrator.  Computers with network license installations will not be required to enter new passwords, this will be done on the server side.  Single machine and home use installations will have to enter new passwords.   To continue using Mathematica, follow the instructions below:

Single Machine Installations

After the contract is renewed, to continue to use Mathematica, please contact Nathlyn Hirohama with the MathID of the computer and the new password will be sent to you.

Employee-Owned Machines:

To continue to use Mathematica, please fill out the Home-Use License Request Form. After you obtain a password extension, you may continue to use the license until September 23 of the following year.

Where can I find documentation for Mathematica?

Full information on the functions, capabilities, and unified structure of the Mathematica system is available online through the Wolfram Mathematica Documentation Center.

What other benefits are included with our site license?

See our site at wolfram.com (connect via a CSUDH computer):  http://www.wolfram.com/siteinfo/

Mathematica Player Pro

Mathematica Player Pro allows non-Mathematica-users to run any program or application created in Mathematica. Complimentary copies of Mathematica Player Pro are available for use on computers that are owned by and located at CSUDH, or employee-owned computers. Employees may obtain Player Pro online using our site license number (available by contacting Nathlyn Hirohama).

Wolfram Workbench

Wolfram Workbench is an integrated development environment (IDE) for building large-scale technical solutions with Mathematica. If you want to develop code written in the Mathematica language, you can request a free copy of Wolfram Workbench using our site license number (available by contacting Nathlyn Hirohama).
