Mr. Hornbeak possesses a Masters of Business Administration Degree (UCLA-1987) and is ABC certified in Prosthetics (1978) and Orthotics (1980).  He has over 30 years of clinical, managerial, and teaching experience.  He attended school at UCLA Prosthetics and Orthotics Program in 1977. He is a member of:  the American Academy of Orthotists & Prosthetists (AAOP); the NCOPE Self Study Committee; and the Southern California Chapter of AAOP as a Board member.  He was awarded the “Outstanding Educator Award” by the Academy in 2000.

Mark Muller, MS, CPO, FAAOP

Mark is a senior instructor for the Prosthetic and Orthotic certificate programs. He also is responsible for teaching Kinesiology, Biomechanics and Gait. He attended Northwestern P&O Center from 1994-1995 and subsequently taught in their Orthotic Certificate Program for 1 ½ years.  He worked in private practice in San Diego for 3 years before becoming Education Manager at Ossur Americas from 2002 – 2005. He joined CSUDH in 2006, where he immediately went to work upgrading all course objectives and developing new curricula in gait and and biomechanics. He received his Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology from California State University Fullerton in 2008.  He has lectured extensively in the U.S.  Mark Muller is currently President of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists and in this position of national leadership his expertise and professional network of O&P leaders will definitely benefit the CSUDH O&P Program.

Paul Oswald, MM, CPO

Paul attended University of Washington’s O&P Education Program from 1977-78 and became ABC certified in Prosthetics in 1982 and Orthotics in 1984.  He subsequently worked in private practice for Orthomedics and later started his own successful practice, Cornerstone O&P in Washington for 15 years. After selling his practice, Mr. Oswald became interested in O&P education and he taught for one year each at two Oklahoma Programs:  the Okmulgee Assistant Program and the Francis Tuttle Technician Program during the 1990’s.  Subsequently he earned a Masters Degree in Management at the Southern Oregon University. He joined CSUDH in 2010, where we will value his extensive clinical experience, as well as his knowledge of curriculum writing and outcome assessment methods.

After graduation from the CSUDH Prosthetics Certificate in spring 2010 he became a Prosthetic Resident at the VA Long Beach Healthcare System’s O&P Service laboratory.  He currently teaches courses at CSUDH in Research Methods, Gait, and Biomechanics & Kinesiology.  Dr. Ruhe earned M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Biomechanical Engineering at Northwestern University from 2004 – 2009.  He also worked closely with the faculty at the Northwestern University Prosthetic and Orthotic Center (NUPOC) in research efforts as well as serving as a patient model during courses and ABC examinations. Dr. Ruhe is especially interested in research that will advance the comfort and function of people with amputations.

Glenn Ham-Rosebrock, CO

Glenn has worked in the O&P field since high school.  He pursued formal education at the Cerritos O&P Program in 1969 and subsequently went to work for Rancho Los Amigos Rehabilitation Hospital in an internship in 1972-73.  He became certified in Orthotics in 1976.  From 1973 through 1986 he worked as a lead orthotic practitioner in several privately owned facilities.  He owned his own orthotics practice, OrthoKinetics, from 1986-1997; afterwards he worked for Beverly Hills O&P.  Glenn has worked as a part-time instructor at CSUDH since 2005.  His specialty is Lower Extremity Orthotics and Polio. Glenn is a polio survivor, has worn an AFO and a KAFO for most of his life. He has over 43 years of technical and clinical experience.

Steve Alpert CP

Steve has been teaching in the CSUDH program for over 20 years.   Currently he teaches Upper Extremity Prosthetics and the Introduction to Orthotics and Prosthetics course.  He attended Northwestern University and he became ABC certified in prosthetics in 1986. He has extensive experience with children’s prosthetics through his previous positions with the Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children and the Child Amputee Prosthetics Project.  Currently he is Chief Prosthetist at Lerman & Sons, a large Los Angeles area facility.  Mr. Alpert is a member of AAOP, and also received the “Outstanding Educator Award” from the Academy in 1995.

Guest Instructors
     In addition to the core faculty, the CSUDH O & P Program regularly invites Guest Speakers to come and present to the students on various topics.  The Guest Speakers include professionals and experts in a variety of O &/or P topics.  These topics may include: advanced techniques or component design; alternative management systems (i.e. scoliosis management) or expansion of theories that were introduced in the course work.  A partial listing of regular Guest Speakers:
