Course Description:

This course covers the requirements of the OSHA Permit-Required Confined Space Standard. Course topics include safety and health hazards associated with confined space entry, and the evaluation, prevention, and abatement of these hazards.

The course covers OSHA requirements; it does not feature workshops (instrumentation, control methods and testing) which are included in the OSHA #2264 Permit-Required Confined Space Entry. This course is designed for small employers or a designated representative (line supervisor or manager) with the responsibility to develop a permit-required confined space program. Upon course completion students will have a basic understanding of confined space hazards, evaluating and abatement of the hazards, and determining when a confined space shall be classified as a permit-required confined space.

Targeted Audience:

Individuals responsible for overseeing safety in industries such as: Construction, Manufacturing, Agriculture, Maritime and General Industry.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Discuss the scope, application and key definitions
  2. Identify requirements for each step in the permit space evaluation process
  3. Identify responsibilities of host and contractors in permit space entry
  4. Distinguish among the three options for entry and identify the requirements associated with these options
  5. Describe the requirements for permit programs and the permit system
  6. Explain training requirements
  7. Discuss the types of rescue and employer responsibilities.
