The Physics
Department: Currently we have three full time faculty
members, two full-time research physicists, and several part-time
instructors. We offer a B. S. in
Physics with a specialty in General Physics or Physical Science. We are a member institution of the
Super-Kamiokande, LIGO Scientific, and CHICOS collaborations. The department offers a Minor (concentration)
in Physics that is designed to attract students in physical and mathematical
sciences, applied and technological sciences, and in applied fields. We have a
nationally known and recognized research programs that include NIH, NSF, and
Department of Energy funding. Current research fields include plasma physics,
space physics, elementary particles and relativity, nuclear physics, particle
astrophysics and cosmic rays, medical applications of physics, biophysics, and
non-linear science. For additional information see http://www.csudh.edu/physics/index.htm.
The University: CSUDH is a medium-sized branch of the
24-campus California State University, the largest higher education system in
the US. We are a public comprehensive university that serves 8750
full-time-equivalent students on campus and an additional 3,000 off-campus
students mostly from the Southern California area. We are located in the
South-Bay of the Los Angeles metropolitan region about 10 miles southeast of
Los Angeles International airport and 5 miles east of the Pacific Ocean in the
city of Carson (adjacent to Los Angeles). Our student body is among the most
ethnically and culturally diverse in the US. CSUDH stresses academic and
scholarly excellence and seeks to provide a stimulating leaning and
intellectual environment. The CSU
system plans to implement some doctoral programs in the near future CSUDH is
developing new graduate programs in the sciences.
CSUDH is an Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action,
section 504, and title nine employer. Women, minorities, and physically
challenged individuals are encouraged to apply.
