PM 77-051/26/77President Donald R. Gerth Faculty Responsibility
On May 3, 1976, President's Council approved a revision in the statement in the Faculty Handbook on teaching assignments. This revision was inadvertently omitted from the 1977 Faculty Handbook and is transmitted to you at this time for your information.
M/S/P Academic Senate 6/6/76
RESOLVE THAT the sentence reading “To accommodate adequate advising and class schedules for students requires that faculty be on campus a minimum of four days a week” (paragraph 3 under TEACHING ASSIGNMENTS, subheading workload, of the 1975-76 Faculty Handbook, p. 124) be deleted, and the following sentences be added in its place. As professional people, faculty members are expected to carry out all of their professional responsibilities and to be present on campus as required by these responsibilities, including scheduled classes, scheduled office hours, and time required for committee assignments. Since the college operates from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and to some extent on Saturday also, faculty members may be requested at times to be available for professional duties beyond the specific times required by the scheduled obligations in the preceding sentence. School Deans and Department Chairpersons will assure that this policy is adhered to. |
