President John A. Brownell

Combination of Geography and Earth Sciences into

Department of Earth Sciences

After full consultation with faculty in the departments of Geography and Earth Sciences, and the deans of the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences* and the School of Science, Mathematics and Technology*, the Vice President for Academic Affairs recommended the combination of the two departments into one with the title of Earth Sciences within the School of Science, Mathematics, and Technology*, effective August 24, 1987.  I approved the recommendation prior to the effective date and am now issuing this formal statement of reorganization.  I commend those involved for responding to the need for streamlining and consolidating programs to match faculty resources.

*No longer separate schools, but rather a part of the College of Arts and Sciences.
