Important Information on 2009-2010 Fees and Affordability
Over the past several weeks and months, the state of the economy has dominated the news and especially our state. At CSU Dominguez Hills, we have been working to create ways to sustain the outstanding educational experience you expect from us in a time when state funds are shrinking. Every area of the university has been closely examined to determine how we can be more efficient. We have sharply reduced expenses with an eye toward quality and access to our great university.
These efforts have not been enough to bridge the gap between the costs to provide you a high-quality education and the resources available to provide it. We are therefore increasing fees, effective for the fall 2009 semester. Fees will increase by $672 to $4,026 for a full-time undergraduate student, by $828 to $4,962 for a full-time graduate student (or for part time, by $390 to $2,334 for undergraduates and by $480 to $2,880 for graduate students), and $780 to $4,674 for full-time teacher credential student (or for part time, by $456 to $2,712 for teacher credential students). This decision was made only after considering all other possibilities.
CSU fees are still highly affordable and remain one of the best values in American higher education. They remain far below the national average for public universities yet allow you the high quality you expect and deserve in your education.
A good deal of this increase will be offset for students who receive financial aid. Federal Pell Grants are increasing and CalGrants will continue to support financially needy state residents. To benefit from these increases, it is very important that you file for financial aid. If you have not yet done so, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Additionally, if you are interested in working on campus, College Work Study awards have also been increased.
The entire CSU Dominguez Hills community remains steadfastly committed to your success. If you would like to talk to a Financial Aid Officer please call (310) 243-3691. We look forward to assisting you in any way possible to pursue your degree.
Sincerely,
Mildred García, Ed.D.
President
Please note: The CSU makes every effort to keep student costs to a minimum. Fees listed in published schedules or student accounts may need to be increased when public funding is inadequate. Therefore, CSU must reserve the right, even after initial fee payments are made, to increase or modify any listed fees, without notice, until the date when instruction for a particular semester or quarter has begun. All CSU listed fees should be regarded as estimates that are subject to change upon approval by The Board of Trustees.
