Dr. Furterer is a Quality professional with experience in Lean Six Sigma, Systems Engineering and Engineering Management. She has applied Lean Six Sigma, Systems Engineering, and Engineering Management tools in healthcare, financial services, retail, information technology and higher education. She previously directed the Enterprise Performance Excellence center in a healthcare system. Dr. Furterer received her Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering with a specialization in Quality Engineering from the University of Central Florida in 2004. She received an MBA from Xavier University, and a Bachelor and Master of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering from The Ohio State University. Dr. Furterer is a Professor of Practice at The Ohio State University, in the Department of Integrated Systems Engineering and Lead Faculty in the Engineering Technology program at the regional campuses.

Her latest book is Systems Engineering: Holistic Life Cycle Architecture, Modeling and Design with Real-World Application, CRC Press, 2022. Thirty five years in the quality field primarily as a Statistician. Work experience has ranged from Petrochemicals and Heavy Manufacturing to Healthcare to Aerospace. Expertise in descriptive statistical analysis and use of quality analysis tools in a variety of facets of business.

Steven has taught many statistics and quality-focused courses both at Fortune 500 companies and at colleges throughout the Chicago area. He has worked for Petrochemical and Steel companies, spent five years working in the Healthcare field, performed statistical analysis for the Space Shuttle program, and has done consulting and conducted training programs throughout the United States and Canada.  Steven is currently the Chair Elect for the Statistics Division, a past member of the ASQ Board of Directors, and has been involved with several ASQ committees including being the Chair of the Voice of the Customer Committee and Board Champion for the Membership Model Committee.

Currently principal partner at University Training Partners, a company that develops and delivers Lean Six Sigma training for corporations and universities. Over the past eight years she has enthusiastically delivered more than 85 Yellow, Green and Black Belt courses for her university and corporate clients. Previously, Mary was a tenured faculty member at Kennesaw State University in Georgia. For eight years she directed and grew the Master of Science in Quality Assurance program and taught statistics, statistical quality control, linear regression and design of experiments in the graduate program. Before her career in academics, Dr. McShane-Vaughn worked for 15 years as a quality engineer and statistician in the automotive, medical device manufacturing, airline, consumer products testing and revenue management industries.

Dr. Mary McShane-Vaughn earned her PhD in Industrial Engineering and an MS in Statistics from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a BS in Industrial Engineering from Kettering University in Michigan. She is co-author of The Certified Quality Inspector Handbook, and author of The Probability Handbook, The Probability Workbook, and Lean Six Sigma Leadership. Dr. McShane-Vaughn holds ASQ certifications as a Six Sigma Black Belt, Quality Engineer and Reliability Engineer.
