Community Connections

California State University, Dominguez Hills is a university connected to its surrounding communities. On July 1, 1999, President James E. Lyons, Sr. set an aggressive agenda to make CSUDH the model “communiversity”. Dr. Lyons often speaks of the communiversity theme we embody, and this commitment is written into our mission statement: “We promote partnerships that connect us to the communities we serve through our commitment to principles of economic, civic and social responsibility.”

The University’s efforts within the community are roughly divided into six program categories: education, arts & culture, business, youth, health & wellness and civic action. Read some of the stories below to see how the communiversity continues to thrive in these areas:

With more than 50 community programs, here is a sampling of just some of the other projects on campus:

  • Academy of Business Leadership, African Diaspora Sacred Music and Musicians Archive, Drew Cares, Health is Wealth Campaign, Mastering Algebra Takes Heroes, Pacific Islander Health Advisory Board, Painted Light Project, PEER Academy, Safe Passage Tennis Program, South Bay Economic Development Partnership, Southern California International Business Academy, Unity Fest.
