The Curriculum & Instruction M.A. Option at CSU, Dominguez Hills, provides an advanced-level integrated course of study within specific areas of Curriculum & Instruction. Following completion of this option, the student will be able to assume professional leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating instructional programs.
Alternative I
    P Complete an approved program with a minimum of 24 units of coursework with at least a B (3.0) average (including core courses).

    P Complete an approved thesis or creative project (6 units). Thesis preparation guidelines may be obtained from the campus bookstore or from the CSUDH website. Students may enroll for thesis credit with advisor approval after completing 21 hours of coursework with at least a B average.

Alternative II
    P Complete an approved program with a minimum of 30 units of coursework with at least a B (3.0) average (including core courses).

    P Pass the M.A. Comprehensive Examination in Curriculum & Instruction. After completion of all coursework, or during the last semester of coursework, the M.A. degree candidate may apply to take the comprehensive examination. 

Curriculum & Instruction PROGRAM OPTION (30 UNITS)

Course Requirements
Prerequisites:

TBE 520 - Introduction to Computers in Education
    (formerly GED 535)
  or
TED 420 - Computer Literacy for Teachers or an equivalent and approved computer literacy course

A. Common Core Requirements (9 units)

GED 500 - Research Methods in Education
GED 501 - Seminar in Learning and Development
GED 503 - Socio-Cultural Issues in Education

B. Required Curriculum Courses

CUR 510 - Process of Curriculum Development
CUR 519 - Advanced Study in Curriculum Research and Instructional Practices (Capstone)

Note: Students should take CUR 510 after the completion of GED 501.  Students are eligible  to  enroll for the CUR 519 (Capstone) course after the completion  of CUR 510 and 24 units in the program.  Advisor's approval is required to enroll for the course.

AND  Select one of the following curriculum seminars:

        CUR 515 - Seminar: Cur. Development in Reading & Language Arts (3)
        CUR 516 - Seminar: Cur. Development in Science and Math (3)
        CUR 517 - Seminar: Cur. Development in Humanities & Social Sciences (3)

C. Electives

Select 12 units from 400- or 500-level courses in education or in the teaching subject-matter emphasis. All elective courses must be approved by the advisor.

NOTE: CSU, Dominguez Hills students who are completing requirements for a basic teaching credential (single subject or multiple subject) and wish to apply TED credential units can transfer up to 9 TED units to the Curriculum & Instruction M.A. Option. Typical electives which may be transferred from the credential program to the M.A. program include:

TED 403 - Teaching of Reading (Elementary)
or
TED 406 - Teaching of Reading (Secondary)
TED 405 - Mainstreaming Students with Special Needs
TED 407 - Language Learning

TED 402 - Educational Psychology
