Credential Request

Online Credential Submission    The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) has implemented an online processing system that will allow the Commission to grant credentials significantly faster than the paper based application process. If you have completed all of the credential coursework requirements and can verify passage of appropriate examinations, you are eligible.  You must have an e-mail address and be able to use a credit card (MasterCard or Visa) for payment.

The online application process and recommendation is a three-step process:

  1. CSUDH will enter the data necessary to recommend you for the credential once you complete the application below.
  2. The information will be transmitted into CCTC’s system, an email will be sent to you and CSUDH, from CCTC, requesting that you complete the credential application form and pay the $57 application fee by credit card. Instructions for completing the credential application and paying the fee will be included in the email you receive from CCTC. Once you have completed this task, an email is sent to you and CSUDH stating you have been recommended for the credential.
  3. Within two working days your file is downloaded, you will receive confirmation that your credential has been granted, providing there are no extenuating circumstances. CCTC anticipates the process to take 10 working days after you have completed the task.

Candidates do not need to be currently enrolled to apply for their credential if they have met the requirements.  Although, candidates do need to apply for their credential within 7 years to meet the time limit on coursework.

The Online Credential Process:

Complete the following Credential Request Form:

  • Include with your Credential Request the items specified in the appropriate checklist below. Transcripts from institutions other than CSUDH must be official, however, they do not have to be in a sealed envelope. Employment verification must have an original signature. Examinations and CPR documentation should be photocopied. For CPR, please provide a copy of the front and back of your valid certification card. Students should print the credential request and submit (via mail or in person) with the appropriate documentation to the COE Student Services center bldg 5 room 510. Office hours Mon - Thurs 8-6pm and Fri 8-5pm.
  • CSUDH will accept credential applications only if they are complete with final sealed transcripts.  The CSUDH Credential office will then verify all documentation, verify eligibility and recommend you for the credential. Requests will be processed in the order in which they are received. Depending upon volume, it might take several weeks before your file is processed. Note: If you have coursework in progress for a current semester, processing will be completed at the end of the semester after grades have been posted. If additional documentation is required you will be informed by mail.
  • Once the Credential Office has submitted the online recommendation, you will be emailed by CCTC to complete the Personal and Professional fitness, and payment portions of the process. After that task is completed, within two working days, CCTC will send you notice of receipt--certificate of eligibility (all correspondence will take place via email).
  • Within an additional two working days you will receive confirmation that your credential has been granted, providing there are no extenuating circumstances. Confirmation will come from CCTC and may be taken to a school district for employment purposes.
  • Your actual credential document will be granted and mailed directly to you from CCTC.

Note:  Effective September 1, 2008, regardless of the date an application may have been received, the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (Commission) will only provide credentials, certificates, and permits through an online view and print process. The Commission will no longer print and mail these documents; as they will be available online to colleges, universities, employers and the document holder within 48 hours of issuance at: https://teachercred.ctc.ca.gov/teachers/PersonalSearchProxy

The Commission will continue to send an automatic email notifying the applicant that a document has been granted and is viewable online (provided the applicant's email address was included on their application).

Effective August 15, 2008, applications for issuance of Duplicate, Replacement or "Ornate" documents are obsolete and will be returned to the sender. To replace the "Ornate" credential, the Commission has added a new feature that allows you to print your own ornate document. To do so, follow these simple instructions:

 1. 48 hours after a credential has been issued click on the following link:

    https://teachercred.ctc.ca.gov/teachers/PersonalSearchProxy

 2. Enter your SS# and DOB

 3. Click on any of your documents listed under "Documents Held"

 4. Click on the "Printer Friendly" button at the bottom

 5. A box will open up with an icon of a printer.  Click the printer icon then click OK

 6. After your document has printed click the "X" button to close the box and return.

"GO to CSUDH and pick up an online credential application and fill it out and attach the letter from your administrator (It's a specific form, can't remember the exact name of it) certifying that you have had a certain number of years as a certificated staff member. Submit it to the credential office at CSUDH. They will submit it for you. You should get an e-mail in a few weeks letting you know you can go online to pay. After that, just wait for the e-mail to come and then your credential will also arrive in the mail a short time later." Cohort Graduate 2006
