Requirements:

Candidates must have earned a
baccalaureate degree from a
regionally accredited college or
university
a minimum of 3.0 or better grade
point average in the last 60
units of upper division
undergraduate coursework (or, a
minimum score of 1000 on the
Graduate Record Examination
(GRE) General Aptitude Test, or
a minimum score of 500 on the
Miller Analogies Test. Register
for the MAT at the CSULA Testing
Office.

Candidates must obtain two
recommendations from individuals
who can evaluate the applicant’s
potential for graduate study,
one recommendation must be from
your supervisor and the second letter
should address your leadership
potential, success
as an educator, and your
character.

Candidates must
include a two- to three-page
Statement of Purpose.
This statement should include: a
comprehensive profile of
yourself as a prospective school
leader; a description of
relevant educational,
occupational, and personal
experiences that have
contributed to your personal
development and your decision to
become a school leader; personal
strengths and areas you have
identified for growth; your
perception of the role of a
school leader and why you
believe you would be successful
in this position based on your
interpersonal qualities,
interests, and any special
skills you may possess.

one-page professional resume

CBEST

Candidates do NOT have to take
the GRE

Candidate must complete the
Graduation Writing Assessment
Requirement (GWAR) by the end of
the first semester; this is an
M.A. requirement only*

Information

A Graduate
Writing
Assessment
Requirement (GWAR)
must be met by
all candidates
within the first
semester of
attendance, or
verification of
enrollment in
ENG 350. This
requirement can
be met on the
CSU Dominguez
Hills campus by
attaining a
passing score of
8 on the GWE or
with a passing
grade of at
least a B in one
of the certified
courses on this
campus.
Education
students
typically take
English 350 to
meet this
requirement.

Students
graduating from
any California
State
University,
except CSUDH,
beginning in
1985 meet the
requirement and
do not have to
take the exam.
CSUDH graduates

take up to seven
(7) years to
complete the
coursework,
including the
thesis or exams.
Coursework that
does not meet
the seven-year
deadline will
have to be

Twenty-one units
must be taken in
residency for
all M.A.
programs. Please
see the program
advisor for
approval and
more information
on which courses
can be
transferred.

Students having
post-baccalaureate
course work
taken at other
institutions
should bring
transcripts and
catalog
descriptions to
their initial
meeting with
their advisor,
who will then
assess if such
course work may
count toward the
M.A.
requirement. In
general, these
courses should
be the
equivalent of
CSUDH courses at
the 400 or 500
levels. It is
essential that
students consult
with an advisor
prior to signing
up for courses
that they wish
to count toward
the 30-unit M.A.
requirement.
