Program Design
Twenty-five percent (25%) of
coursework is delivered in
face-to-face format, which is
comprised of seminars,
discussions, lecture, and
selected panel discussions
composed of experts currently
working in the field. The topics
of these learning opportunities
are based on the curriculum
content identified in Standard
3.
Twenty-five percent (25%) of
coursework is field experience
consisting of a field-based
leadership project that
integrates with the course work,
readings, mentoring, field
experience, and on-line
components of the CSUDH program.
Fifty percent (50%) of
coursework is delivered in an
on-line format. A combination of
chat room, discussion board, and
research activities have been
designed to support the
candidate achieve professional
competency in each of the six
thematic areas identified in
Standard 3.
The CSUDH program is designed to
be relevant and problem-based.
Each candidate selects a
relevant problem to research,
study, analyze, and make
recommendations for resolution.
Each of the six CPSELs are
researched, studied, and
analyzed within the project
prior to the candidate
developing a summary,
conclusions and recommendations.
Collaboratively, the cohort
coordinator, fieldwork mentor
and candidate select assigned
readings that provide a
theoretical perspective
regarding the problem/project
being studied. The program is a
seamless blend of traditional
classroom learning,
non-university sponsored staff
development opportunities,
on-line and field activities.
The program consists of three
phases:
1) Initial Assessment and
development of the candidate’s
Individual Induction Plan (IIP)
(EAD 580: Professional
Leadership Pre-Assessment,
Induction).
2) The IIP is used as a guide to
the candidate as he/she becomes
professionally competent as per
the outcomes of each of the six
thematic areas. (EAD 581:
Principles of Professional
Practice, Six CPSELs) – this is
a repeatable course until all
six CPSELs and competencies have
been mastered). Generally
candidates take two semesters of
this course. Candidates
participate in university and
non-university sponsored
learning activities as specified
in their IIP. Assessment of
competencies can occur at any
point in the program.
3) Summative Assessment (EAD
582: Professional Leadership
Post Assessment)
