GED 535 Course Information

Course Description

GED 535 is a 3 semester unit graduate education course designed to give teachers a basic foundation in the use of technology. It covers the educaitonal uses of application programs (word processing, spreadsheet, database), computer assisted instruction, computer managed instruction, simple programming, and the Internet. Included in each of these topics is the creation of objective-based lesson plans appropriate for various technology settings. The course is designed to meet K-12 credential requirements in California.

This class will enable teachers to use the computer in classroom instruction. There is both a lecture and laboratory component. The laboratory component is a hands-on setting using cooperative learning groups. There are both individual and group assignments for all major areas. The course has been designed to meet the state mandated computer competencies required for credentialing set by AB 1681.

This class is divided into lecture and laboratory components. The laboratory consists of a series of series of hands-on assignments designed to enable each student to master the skills necessary to begin using the computer for classroom instruction. During the laboratory section of the class, students will work in cooperative learning groups. For many of the laboratory assignments there is both an individual and a group task.

The midterm test will be open book, and mailed to students' homes. The final must be taken on campus.

Broadcast Time

During the Spring 1997 semester, GED 535 will be broadcast on Saturdays, from 3:30 pm to 6 pm, on KLCS (Channel 58).
