Graduation
is the completion of all requirements to earn your bachelor's
degree in Liberal Studies. You must complete the following
requirements by the conclusion of the semester you applied to
graduate:
General
Studies Requirement
(for transfer students)
You should receive a General Studies Evaluation at or before
the end of your first semester. This evaluation is completed
by the Admissions Office. If you did not receive an
evaluation, call the Admissions Office at (310) 243-3645 to
inquire. It is your responsibility to keep your general
studies evaluation up-to-date. If you are taking, or have
taken additional courses off campus, you must pay a fee to
have your file updated, and you should request a revised
evaluation. Sending an official transcript to the Admissions
Office (without paying the fee and requesting a revised
evaluation) will not update your file. Also, any additional
units you may get credit for will not be reflected until an
update is completed. [Note: Your registration date and time
are predicated on your total unit count.]
General
Studies Requirement
(for freshmen)
You should have completed your general studies requirements
(the green sheet) before beginning upper division course work.
Statutory
Requirements
(U. S. History, State and
Local Government, and U. S. Constitution)
These requirements are included in the General Studies
Evaluation completed by the Admissions Office.
Unit
Requirement
(upper and lower division units)
In order to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal
Studies you must complete a minimum of 120 units. Included in
the 120 units must be 40 units of upper division work (courses
numbered 300 or above). Sub-collegiate units are never
counted. TED courses are automatically counted as
post-baccalaureate units unless a student requests, in
writing, that the units be used to make up unit count to earn
the degree. The maximum number of units transferable from a
community college is 70. It is possible to continue taking
courses at a community college to fulfill a major requirement,
but your total unit count will remain 70.
Grade
Point Average Requirements
Because Liberal Studies majors must pass each required course
with a grade of "C" or better, our successful
teaching majors meet all minimum GPA requirements. However,
those majors graduating with a General Option (non-teaching) because
of grade and/or subject matter deficiencies will require the
following information: the minimum grade point averages
required to graduate are: 2.0 for all upper division courses
used in the major, 2.0 for all courses taken at CSUDH and 2.0
cumulative (includes all courses transferred and taken at
CSUDH). If any one or more of the grade point averages are
below 2.0, you will not graduate. Sub-collegiate and CR units
are not used in determining your GPA. [Note: To be admitted
back into the university as a classified post-baccalaureate
student, entering the Teacher Credential Program, you should
have either a 2.75 GPA for the last 60 units you completed or
have at least a 2.67 cumulative GPA.
Liberal
Studies Major Requirements
You must complete all course requirements in Areas I, II, III,
IV, V and VI on your worksheet with a minimum grade
of "C" or better.
Graduation
With
Honors in the Major
All
students applying for Summer, Fall, and Spring graduation
will be mailed a letter containing information for applying
for graduation with honors in Liberal Studies if the
following criteria are met: (1) completed a minimum of 36
units at CSU Dominguez Hills and (2) have at least a
cumulative grade point average of 3.5 in all upper division
courses (300 and 400 numbered courses) used to satisfy the
requirements for the Liberal Studies major. (TED prefix or
other elective courses will not be used to calculate GPA
unless they are specifically used to satisfy degree
requirements.)
Graduation
With University Honors
An
undergraduate student who has completed a minimum of 36
units in residence at CSU Dominguez Hills with a grade point
average of 3.40 or better may be a candidate for graduation
with honors. The criteria for graduation with honors are:
(1) a minimum of 36 units in residence; (2) A minimum grade
point average of 3.40 on all units taken at CSU Dominguez
Hills; (3) A cumulative grade point average as outlined
below on all acceptable undergraduate work:
3.40
- 3.59
Cum Laude
3.60
- 3.79
Magna Cum Laude
3.80
- 4.00
Summa Cum Laude
Students
who achieve Honors in the Major and/or Graduation with
Honors will have the information recorded on their
transcripts and diplomas. Only students graduating with university
honors will be allowed to wear the honors braid at
commencement.
