CYNTHIA G. JOHNSON, MSN, RN, EdD
Title:  Associate Professor

INTRODUCTION
Dr. Cynthia Johnson is an alumnus of California State University, Dominguez Hills. She completed her Masters of Science in Nursing (Nursing Administration) in 1995. Dr. Johnson is a practicing registered nurse for the past thirty-four years and received her nursing experience while living in three major cities in the United States - New York, San Diego, and Los Angeles. Her clinical background is in critical care and public health. Her recent focus has been in community organizing and quality management.
TEACHING INTERESTS
For the past 20 years she has been on the faculty at four colleges and universities teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. She is currently teaching Home Health, Public Health, Technology for the Information Age, and Continuous Quality Improvement in Health Care. At the graduate level she taught several courses in Advanced Nursing Roles. Since 1996, she has been an Internet course developer and Associate Professor in the Master of Science in Quality Assurance Degree Program at CSU Dominguez Hills. She has been teaching web-based courses for over four years.
RESEARCH INTERESTS
Her research interests focus on community health. Specifically Dr. Johnson is interested in nutrition and the health and social status of children and families.

  • Project Director, Needs Assessment Survey Development: Project to conduct focus groups in three Associate Degree Nursing Programs, to collect data for the development of a survey, to administer to Hispanic nurses. The purpose of the needs assessment is the recruitment and retention of Hispanic nurses into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program at CSU Dominguez Hills.

  • Co-Project Director, Grassroots Nutrition and Fitness Project:Project to conduct Town Hall / Summit meetings to collect data on nutrition and fitness issues for children and adolescents. Project also disseminated findings to residents and legislators.

For the past four years Dr. Johnson has been the Faculty Advisor for our Nursing Student Organization (http://www.csudh.edu/soh/nso/index.htm). She is also chair of the Awards and Scholarship committee and the School of Health Representative for the University’s Honors Convocation Committee. This year she is serving as the Parliamentarian for the Academic Senate.
HOBBIES
My hobbies include dancing (especially the calypso), singing, sewing, traveling, and the movies (good comedies).
