MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION
Sigma Theta Tau International is the honor society of nursing committed to fostering excellence, scholarship and leadership in nursing to improve health care worldwide. The Society promotes the use of nursing research in health care delivery and makes its resources available to all people and institutions interested in the latest knowledge in nursing care. Sigma Theta Tau members are nurses who have demonstrated personal commitment to nursing excellence. Membership is more than an academic destination; it's a dynamic partnership to be integrated and renewed throughout your career. (www.nursingsociety.org).
The Xi Theta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International, at the School of Nursing at California State University, Dominguez Hills, was chartered in 1994. Applications (submission of Member Intent Form and current resume) are accepted between the first of January to the third week in February of each year. Induction of new members takes place in late May. In 2008 the induction date is May 22.
Membership Criteria:
Undergraduate students (BSN) must:
- Have completed 12 credit hours at current school;
- Have completed ½ of the nursing curriculum (26 units)
- Have at least a GPA of 3.0 (based on a 4.0 grading scale);
- Rank in the upper 35th percentile of graduating class;
- Meet the expectation of academic integrity.
Graduate students (MSN) must have:
- Completed one-quarter of the nursing curriculum.
- Xi Theta requires completion of 15 units of graduate coursework.
- At least a GPA of 3.5 (based on a 4.0 scale).
- Meet the expectation of academic integrity.
Nurse Leaders must:
- Be a registered nurse, legally recognized to practice in his/her country.
- Hold at least a baccalaureate degree in nursing or other field.
- Have demonstrated marked achievement in nursing.
** Alumni are eligible to apply for membership under the BSN and MSN student requirements for one (1) year after graduation.
